First Look at the Civivi Vision FG
When I first received the Vision FG and took it out of the package my first thoughts were “wow, that is a lot bigger than I expected”, “ dang that feels heavy”, and “this is kinda sweet”.
A friend from the Knaf’s Moon Crew, Trevor Warner, loaned me this one when I posted asking about the Vision FG versus the Demko AD20.5 as I was looking for opinions on both. I wanted to try out that style of lock and see what all of the fuss was about. I was torn between this and the Shark Lock but seeing as a loaner was available the Superlock won that battle!
So here we are a week or so into using it for my normal day to day tasks…how is it doing so far? Pretty darn good actually. My initial reactions still stand. It is a little on the heavy side but well balanced so in use you don’t notice that so much. The flat profile makes it very comfortable in the pocket. The size actually works out well, especially for tasks around the property. I wasn't sure how I felt about the jade G10 look but its grown on me. Its easy to find when you drop it in the grass which is a common theme for me but not as obvious as an orange when using it around town.
The real draw to this model is the Superlock. It took a half hour of desk fidgeting to really get the hang of it but after that its very natural and fast. I prefer a finger safe lock and this checks that box. To open or close the blade you simply pull back and lift slightly on the tab across the spine and voila. Using a knife with heavy leather gloves a lot of lock types can be a struggle but this one works like a champ. In the end that was the motivation I needed to purchase it from Trevor so this one has become a keeper. When I am out working on the property and don’t have a fixed blade with me this is a snap to open, close, and not remove a finger.
Would I recommend this? You bet. But probably only if you are a knife guy. Its not a difficult lock but its not an intuitive one either. For the price the quality is there, the function is there, and lets be honest…the looks are REALLY there. If you are in the mood for something a little different or have a specific use case like I did you wont be sad you tried it.
